Tokyo Nude Calendar 2024 is the latest in the ongoing Nude Calendar Project by Amsterdam-born artist Lara Verheiden (1990). The Nude Calendar Project was born in 2018 as a project to create an artistic nude calendar to replace the previously common nude calendars for men. By using the calendar, an object that can be easily incorporated into everyday life, as a medium, it creates an opportunity for more people to experience photographic art and nude portraits outside of the context of museums and galleries. The subjects are not beautiful women lying on the beach, but ordinary women, men, people who are neither, couples, families, and friends. These people, who Verheiden herself cast on Instagram, are photographed half-naked or fully nude in various scenes from their daily lives. The latest edition of this calendar, which is shot in a specific city every year, is set in Tokyo and photographed with people who actually live in Tokyo as models.
